Offset labels
Labels in offset printing are particularly suitable when fine grid gradients and images on the labels are required. Wet offset vs. dry offset
We have two different offset printing processes – wet offset and dry offset. In both cases, it is indirect flat printing.
In the wet offset printing process, the flat printing plate is wetted with damp water, which has water-friendly and water-repellent areas. The inking unit transfers the ink to the moistened printing plate. Only the areas of the pressure plate that have not absorbed water due to their repellent property are wetted with paint. The ink is first transferred to a blanket cylinder before it passes from there onto the substrate. Direct contact with the substrate would disturb the ink-water balance. The advantage of this technique is a fine color control as well as the use of various special colours.
As a second method, we use dry offset. Here, the printing plate is provided with a solid layer of silicones at the non-printing points. This saves the entire dampening unit on the machine. Similar to flexographic printing, the inking unit is equipped with an anilox roller. This enables an extremely uniform ink application over the entire production width. Thanks to this process, repeat jobs can be reprinted very quickly and in a material-saving manner.
